What are the SBD Secured by Design Standards for Composite Doors in the UK?

April 23, 2026 at 9:46 am, No comments
Secured by Design (SBD) specifications for UK composite doors require the entire door set (frame, leaf, hardware) to pass PAS 24:2016 testing, which simulates sustained physical attacks. Often called "Police Preferred Specification," these doors must feature 3-star TS007 cylinders, laminated glass, and multi-point locks to reduce burglary risk by 75%.

Key SBD Specification Requirements for Composite Doors

  • PAS 24 Accreditation: The minimum standard, requiring doors to withstand rigorous, manual, tool-based attacks.
  • 3-Star Cylinder: Cylinders must meet TS007:2014+A2:2018 (3-star) or Sold Secure Diamond standard, protecting against snapping and picking.
  • Laminated Glass: Mandatory laminated safety glass (typically 6.8mm) ensures it stays intact if attacked, unlike standard toughened glass.
  • Multi-Point Locking: A minimum of a three-point locking system is required.
  • Reinforced Frame & Hinges: Hinge-side security must include dog bolts or anti-lift pins, and frames must be strengthened.
  • Quality Control: Manufacturers must undergo annual audits to ensure consistent production standards.

Usage Examples

Usage: Commonly required for new-build housing, social housing, and high-security residential upgrades.
